Leading Canadian studio leverages cloud-based media management platform for delivering its television library to clients internationally.
TORONTO - June 6, 2017 — Award-winning global studio Breakthrough Entertainment today announced they have transitioned to a completely cloud-based delivery system through WCPMedia Services for the delivery of their premium content to their clients; major networks and digital channels across the globe.
As a distributor and production house Breakthrough boasts a catalogue of over 40 feature films and 4000 television episodes including such popular titles as the L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables trilogy, David Rocco’s Dolce Vita and The Adventures of Napkin Man.
The Toronto based studio began using WCPMedia Services cloud-based platform earlier this year to deliver content to broadcasters around the world. The company is pleased to announce it is now using WCPMedia Services to deliver shows each month to broadcasters on six continents. “WCPMedia Services gives us a powerful edge by securely delivering our programming to our broadcasting partners via their high-speed, high-volume file transfers and media asset management system,” says Nat Abraham, Partner, President, Distribution at Breakthrough Entertainment. “As soon as our files are uploaded onto the WCPMedia cloud, our customers have immediate access. It’s fast, easy and secure.”
LOS ANGELES—June 12, 2017— Loa Angeles-based The Africa Channel is currently using WCPMedia Services cloud-based media management platform in marketing content to broadcasters, streaming services and other distribution outlets worldwide.
The Africa Channel recently launched a production arm, TAC Studios, to produce original lifestyle programming about contemporary African life, and to market its existing library of premium content. The WCPMedia Services platform allows TAC Studios to set up secure virtual screening rooms to share content with current and potential customers.
Add widely lauded director Paolo Sorrentino (The Great Beauty, Youth), who has had six films in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, to the list of highbrow auteurs who have been lured to the small screen by its promise of sophisticated longform storytelling. Sorrentino’s 10-episode series, The Young Pope, debuted at the Venice Film Festival before premiering on Sky Atlantic in Italy and making its way stateside via HBO. The project was produced by Wildside, co-produced by Haut et Court and MediaPro, and co-financed by Sky, HBO, and Canal+.
The Young Pope team used WCPMedia Services’ cloud-based collaboration platform, including a virtual screening room, to share media during production and post. Dailies were distributed via WCPMedia Services Screening Room web application, which employs automated transcode and delivery technology to optimize files for secure review. “They wanted to be 100 percent confident in the quality and the look of the material they were sending abroad,” said WCPMedia Services Sales and Operations Manager Luca de Sensi in a prepared statement.
“We accommodated their video specs and color science into our workflows to deliver a result that was color accurate and consistent across the board.” Production media was stored at a Swiss data center with Tier IV certification, and all access was strictly tracked and controlled, WCP said.

ROME, ITALY — Bent is the latest motion picture production to move its media management to the WCPMedia cloud. Augustus Color, the Rome-based post production lab, is using WCPMedia’s platform to deliver dailies and other assets from production locations in Italy to production partners around the globe.
Full dailies sets are delivered to the film’s editorial team following each production day. Select raw assets are sent to visual effects providers. Producers and other stakeholders, meanwhile, are able to review dailies media via password-secure WCPMedia Virtual Screening Rooms.
The result is significant time and cost savings, and improved security over the delivery of physical assets. “WCPMedia streamlines the production workflow by reducing transfer times compared with standard courier delivery—and does so with top level security,” explains Alessandro Pelliccia, general manager in Augustus Color and technical supervisor for this project. “With the same unique upload, we can feed the editorial team and the virtual screening room simultaneously. It’s a beautiful collaboration tool that allows editors and producers to review content and work together as a team from any location.”
